Company History on Es Wright & Son

The company was founded by Edward Sewell Wright in 1931 in Stoke Heath, Coventry. Edward (Ted) did modest gardening jobs including tree works and ground maintenance works around the city of Coventry. In 1948, Ted and Dorothy had a son called Antony whilst living in their family home on The Uplands, Stoke Heath, Coventry. Antony (Tony) left school at the age of 16 in 1964 and worked alongside his father cutting grass, cutting down trees and maintaining commercial landscapes.

Tony started to push the construction arm of the business in the 1970’s along with the soft planting works which is where the company boomed, whilst always retaining the grounds maintenance side of the business. Unfortunately , Ted lost his battle to Parkinson’s Disease in 1996 which devastated the family, but thankfully Tony had significantly developed the company to ensure its future as one of the best Landscape Companies within the Midlands.

Today, Tony’s son is a Landscape Architect and runs Landscape Design Architecture Ltd that works for large-scale commercial developers on regenerating estates mainly within the London area. He also is responsible for any design work that is required for E S Wright & Son Ltd.
